Science does not have exclusive rights to "knowledge:" its province is far narrower than that of inquiring reason in general. Even among the "modes of knowledge," science represents only one among others. It is geared to the use of theory to triangulate from objectively observational experience to answer our questions about how things work in the world. But there are many other areas in which we have cognitive interestareas wholly outside the province of science.47
